 Getting the crew together

Prior to the conduct of the study, the 14 student-members to compose the team warriors of the DPSA Learning Challenge under the Science & Environment Category were oriented last week of June 2009 about the rationale, criteria, mechanics of the contest, and were given some winning tips by the teacher-coaches. At first, they were 17, but as the days went by, three of them backed-out and left the 14 young fighters along with their three teacher-coaches to face the great challenge. The teacher-coaches really opted for a bigger group to give more learning opportunities for the students.

The teacher-coaches were Mrs. Alicia C. Naag (Earth & Environmental Science), Mrs. Baby Ruby F. Laurente (English & Special Program in Journalism) and Mr. Raphael G. Acabado (Biology). The remaining  student-members of different year levels were divided into three groups namely: John Dinnex Valeros (III-Kvant), Augustene Mae Narag (III-Kvant), Jonah Sergio (III-Tsyklon) and Karl Villadares (II-Triquetra) for the technical aspect; Abbas Villalon (II-Penrose), Nathaniel Emil Legacion (IV-Hufflepuff), Kristi Maria Dominique Aguilar (I-Hephaestus) and Jeonoah Kali Fornoles (II-Triquetra) for the write-up; and John Kenneth de Nava, Ian Jonathan Ombao, Daniel John Nadal, Ken Paolo Salcedo, Charlene Manalang and Ysabel Dawn Abad, all of I-Hephaestus,  for the interview &video recording .

Brainstorming about the possible title of the study was immediately conducted. Later, the team was divided into three groups for the planning of activities, the making of the budget of work, and the mapping of interview locations.

Three months later, they used scientific methods of data gathering and data processing with the help of the state-of-the-art computer technology and equipment like video camera, digital camera, and several computer units provided by the school.
